Two years ago, in February 1999, I had the chance to get a job in Kuujjuaq in the Nunavik region. Where is the Nunavik will you ask ? Well it is in the Northern region of Québec, Canada. It is north of the 55th parallel, on the western side you have the Hudson Bay, to the north the Hudson Straight, the Ungava Bay and Labrador are in the eastern part (see map). You find 507 000 squared km of wild tundra, taiga forests, scenic mountains, majestic rivers and countless lakes. It is 1500km from Montréal and the only way to get there is by a direct flight from Montréal to Kuujjuaq with First Air Airline.

Usually in these regions, where housing is scarce, the employers supply apartments to their employees. Here you can see my place. We called it the « 902 » its address, or the « Batch » because of its 13 studios.

I worked for the Unagava Tulattavik Health Center (Health center that serviced the whole western coast of the Ungava Bay. Here is the picture of the health center.

I worked for the Administration Department that was located at the 905 (because of the lack of space at the Health Center, the administration was moved to another building in the village) my colleagues were also my friends, neighbors!  On this picture, from left to right, let me introduce you to Christiane, Jessie, Alain, René (back) Eva, Danielle, Bernadette and Francois.
